Clemens Briels (1946) - Looking for a landing stip

Clemens Briels, born in Son in 1946, is a much sought after artist both nationally and internationally. His artworks have been included in several renowned art collections and he was elected as the first Dutch artist for "Official Olympic Artist" for the Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City in 2002.

There is always a short story behind Clemens Briels’ works, as if he uses them as small anecdotes from an opposing society. Clemens Briels developed his own style, which he called ANTIPODISM: he prefers imagining the opposite of the stereotypical things, the learned things. The spectator is confronted with a different, imaginative look at everyday things that is often surprising.

Briels depicts his experiences in the Orient, the Caribbean and North and South America. In addition, traditional Central and South American music is an almost inexhaustible source of inspiration. The Cuban son, mambo, merenque and the souk, with a slightly erotic
sauce-topped music tones, forcing him to create intriguing paintings.
