Ludwig Hermann van Hoom (Greifswald 1812 - 1881 Berlin) alias Ludwig Hermann received his painterly education at the Berlin Kunstakademie under J.G.Schadow. During his study stay in Paris, he took lessons with L.E.Isabey and E.Lepoittevin. During extensive travels through Europe, he spent several years in Holland, where he painted after pictures of the romantic school of painting around B.C. Koekkoek, but also contemporary painters such as C.Springer.
The image, as is often the case with Van Hoom, has a counterpart, is painted fluidly and in good condition. The title is marked with pencil probably original on the back.
The gold-plated frame has only minor signs of use.
