Renault - 5 Alpine Coppa - 1977
The Renault 5 Alpine Cup is a version built in a limited number of units, sold through the official Renault network. It was mainly used to compete in the eponymous monomarque championship: the Renault 5 ELF Cup.
The car differs from the standard Renault 5 Alpine for disc brakes at the rear instead of drums. Also the gearbox, that has a shorter bevel gear, was improved in the R5 Cup. Other improvements include the steering box and the upgrade of the braking system. The front suspension has Bilstein racing shock absorbers and brake discs with larger diameter.
Also the rear suspension has Bilstein racing shock absorbers. Special attention was given to the chassis with more rigid gearbox and engine mounts. The interior set-up has the bucket seat.
This car belonged to a well-known Italian driver, who took it to the race on the circuits in the mid-1970s. Then it was purchased by the Terrosi Team that was the responsible for its preparation and assistance.
In the 1980s, after the end of its racing career, the car was used occasionally and kept in its original condition. In my possession since 2004.
The car maintains the interior layout with the original rollbar of that period and the characteristic bucket seats. The electrical system was completely rebuilt with modifications typical of the 1980s.
The mechanics is kept in working condition with periodic maintenance and there are all the typical improvements of that period. The car has never had serious accidents, the underbody is intact and was repainted as well as the interior while the exterior paint has signs of ageing.
The car has Italian number plates and documents and is A.S.I. registered as a vehicle of historical and racing interest. In November 2016, the Italian magazine Automobilismo d’Epoca published an extensive article about this car and its racing sisters: R 5 Alpine Turbo Cup and R 5 Alpine group 2.
This car can be viewed by telephone appointment in Chiari, in the province of Brescia, Italy.
