A pair of book-shaped cases from Collezione Musei. The cases are made of marbled wood and are double-faced, bound in contemporary parchment, with the back in leather with gold-coloured engravings and labels in red morocco leather.
Volume No.3 contains 37 casts,
Volume No.4 contains 39 casts,
for a total of 76 plaster casts in relief of different shapes and sizes depicting cameos, from classical sculpture to Canova, of the following collections: Capitol Museum, Vatican Museum, Canova Works, Thorwaldsen Works, Naples Museum, and monuments of various places.
These two book-shaped cases are the work of master sculptor Giovanni Liberotti, a nineteenth-century Roman engraver of gems, specializing in making these boxes in Rome as a souvenir of the Grand Tour.
On the front covers of the two cases there are some missing parts due to their age. The plaster casts are intact. Books measure 26x18x4.5 cm
