These type of textiles were made from fibres of the palm tree that were kept wet for a long time to make them flexible. They were usually woven by women who also embroidered motives on top.

This textile comes from a larger collection of textiles that were brought by back by colonialists from the region of Namur (Belgium) before World War 2.
